Sumire Yamanaka (山中菫, Yamanaka Sumire, born 20 November 2001) is a Japanese professional boxer who holds the IBF female atomweight World title.

Professional career

Yamanaka made her professional boxing debut on 13 December 2020, scoring a unanimous decision win over Arika Shimono at Edion Arena in Osaka.[3]

She won the vacant WBO Asia Pacific 102-pound belt by stopping Honoka Kano in the fifth round of their bout at Tokyo's Korakuen Hall on 1 September 2022.[4]

On 12 January 2024, Yamanaka captured the IBF female atomweight World title with a unanimous decision success against defending champion Mika Iwakawa also at Korakuen Hall.[5][6][7]

Yamanaka is scheduled to make the first defense of her title against former WBC female atomweight World champion Fabiana Bytyqi at Olympiastuetzpunkt, Heidelberg in Germany on 23 November 2024.[8]

Personal life

Sumire is the younger sister of former WBO mini-flyweight world champion Ryuya Yamanaka.[5]
